Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (AVES)

Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic imaging is an essential tool for identifying the root cause of your pet’s underlying medical condition and monitoring the healing process. At AVES, we utilize several imaging modalities routinely.

Diagnostic Imaging Services

Digital Radiography

AVES uses state-of-the-art digital x-ray equipment to ensure that the resolution of our images is of the highest quality.

Computed Tomography (CT)

Computed tomography (CT) is an imaging procedure that uses specialized x-ray equipment to create a series of detailed images, or scans, of areas inside the body. AVES is home to the only 8-slice CT scanner in Austin. A higher slice count reduces scan time and provides better image resolution. Our CT machine also offers the ability to perform 3D reconstructions of images, helping our specialists visualize tissue structures and plan treatment options.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging (sonography) uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize soft tissues such as muscles and internal organs. We offer ultrasound service 6 days per week.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio-wave energy to generate detailed images of your pet. Since MRI operates differently than CT and ultrasound, it can often provide information that cannot be obtained through other imaging techniques.

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy provides a continuous series of very low-dose x-ray images, allowing veterinarians to observe the inside of the body in motion, similar to an x-ray movie on a monitor. This technique is useful for diagnosing conditions such as swallowing disorders, collapsing tracheas, motility issues in the stomach and intestines, and abnormal blood flow through vessels.

We partner with the board-certified radiologists to ensure accurate interpretation of our imaging studies.
