Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (AVES)

Anesthesiology

Our anesthesiologists ensure each sedated or anesthetic procedure receives the highest standard of medical care, monitoring and appropriate pain management. They work closely with our other specialists to ensure each patient has a sedation or anesthesia plan that is comprehensive as possible. Providing excellent perioperative care aims to minimize complications and ensures patients feel comfortable throughout their entire hospital stay.

Through this collaboration, our doctors and technical staff receive advanced training in anesthesiology and are highly skilled in implementing safe, effective protocols and delivering high-level care across a wide range of patient needs and clinical situations. During each sedated or anesthetic procedure, the patient’s vital and physiologic variables are closely monitored to allow for rapid detection and treatment of adverse events. Invasive blood pressure and arterial blood gas monitoring are additional advanced techniques provided by our anesthesiologists. Sedation and anesthesia protocols are tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs with considerations for individual personality, co-existing diseases and medical or surgical procedure they are undergoing. Anesthesiologists are specialists in managing anesthesia for critically ill patients and those with moderate or severe chronic illnesses, including heart and lung disease, endocrine disease and cancer. They are available to collaborate with all other specialty services to provide the best care and meet the needs of our patients, including outpatients and hospitalized pets.

Our Anesthesia and Pain Management Services include:
